Where in the world is.....Leanne Statland?
"Greetings, everyone! It's been a busy few years since I left The Mirman School community. After getting married and having a little girl, Layla, we moved back to my hometown of Chicago, just north of the city. Not long after we had moved, I called up my former gifted teacher to see how she was doing, and she told me she would be retiring in a year and asked if I might want to take her position. This was the person and the job that had inspired me to go into gifted education in the first place. I vividly remember how important this program was to me growing up. To be able to continue my teacher's legacy was very meaningful, and I am now beginning my second year as the gifted coordinator for the district. It is VERY different from my Mirman School experiences, and I have found myself challenged and growing a lot! Layla is thriving. She loves books, going to preschool, and playing "Layla Teacher" to her stuffed animals. And for those of you who have asked about my books, I am working on two different novels with two different editors in my very spare time. I miss the Mirman community and think of everyone often. I wish you all a happy year of growing and learning!" Leanne Ellis, Gifted Specialist, Rutledge Hall, Lincolnwood, Illinois.
