Mirman Takes Center Stage in California High School Theatre Festival
This year's California State Thespian Festival at the Ontario Convention Center consisted of three days of performances and workshops by and for students in grades 9-12 from all over California. In spite of being the youngest participants in the Festival, the 6 Mirman seniors and 3 Mirman alumni were all selected to perform on the main stage in Best of Fest, which is an extraordinary achievement and honor. The alumni were allowed to join our troupe because their current school doesn't participate in the Festival. The seniors - DANIELLE WOLF, JOEY LIEBERMAN, ADAM SCHARE, KYLE YEH, MAZELLE ETESSAMI and MADISON RUBELI - auditioned and were cast in the inaugural California Playwrite's performance; their scene was a highlight of the event, singled out by the playwrite honoree Jonathan Dorf. Our three alumni - SOLANGE ETESSAMI, THEODORA DAVIS and ELANA ZELTSER - competed together in the Scenefest category and came in First Place! They were also chosen to open the Festival with their performance. THEODORA interviewed and was selected to be part of the Media-tech crew, helping to put together a video compilation of the entire festival. She was singled out with a Tech Award for her efforts. More than 500 hundred students compete in the Monologue Individual Event - the most competitive category in the Festival. MADISON and MAZELLE both earned superior rankings and ELANA came in First Place and was chosen to perform in Best of Fest! Congratulations to Mr. Maynard and the Mirman troupe for upholding and advancing our theatre tradition.
