Mirman Scientists Shine at LA County Science Fair
At the Los Angeles County Science Fair Awards Ceremony in Pasadena last weekend, Mirman was well represented on the winners' platform. ERIN LEE (US3) won First Place in the Ecology Division for her project "From Algae to Electricity: Powering Your Home with Green Energy," while MICHAEL SWERDLOW (US2) won First Place in the Physics - General Division, as well as winner of the Special Metrics Award for best use of the metric system) for his project "Loop the Loop: The Physics of Vertical Loop Roller Coasters." Both Erin and Michael also won a Sweepstakes Award and will continue on to the California State Science Fair in May. Earning Honorable Mention in their categories were MAISIE LYNTON and ALEXANDRA STERN for "Microbial Demise: Can It Be Achieved?," the team of BEN KOTZUBEI, JOHNNY BERMAN and AUSTIN VESELIZA for "Protective Material in Helmets to Prevent Head Injury," and DANIELLA KHERSONSKY for "Tipsy Daphnia - The Effect of Alcohol on Heart Rate." Mirman alum DIVYA SIDDARTH, currently attending Harvard-Westlake, earned Third Place recognition in the Ecology Division. Congratulations, Mirman Scientists!
